Remembrance Day is always personal in our home. My paternal grandfather Jack Parkman enlisted at the age of 19 and served in WWII. He apparently was injured during a blackout in the European theatre and was discharged. Such were the horrors of the sacrifices he and others made that he would rarely speak of his […]
I just finished up a week of teaching young men about how to clarify their life mission/vision at one of the local Christian colleges in our region. It was wonderful to see the ‘aha’ moments when they found out that they did indeed have vision and that it really matters that they protect and pursue […]
The way we think about money can either deplete or engergise us! It’s phenomenal how much the Bible has to say about finances- there are approximately 2350 verses that have to do with wealth, money, and possessions. God wants us to learn how to handle our money in a way that reduces stress, blesses others and […]
Getting rid of bitterness is probably the biggest step you can take towards living freely. One preacher said that in her meetings about 80% of people say that they are carrying some sort of bitterness towards others in their hearts! We are very good at staying mad. We never want to let go of the unjust things […]
As a child I was always mesmerized by a spot near our home where two rivers came together- it was powerful and beautiful! This is a picture for me of what happens as people learn to incorporate the priorities of Jesus into their lives- each time they do so it is like a new stream […]
If we are going to have a fresh and passionate faith we need to be investing into the next generation what God has invested into us. Recently I was (attempting to) coach a church leadership team that showed no interest in impacting the next generation. I don’t think that I hid my disappointment well because they […]
Advertisers know it. Crazed dictators know it. But do we know it?!
The key to changing communities and nations is by focusing on children and young people.
Enter the 4/14 window movement, which recognizes the strategic importance of the young- those between the ages of 4 to 14- in Christian mission and ministry strategy. Luis Bush, who first gave us the strategic focus of the 10/40 window is now one of the people leading the church to focus on this growing people group that represents 1/3 of the world’s population. It is the most vulnerable- yet also the most responsive and potential-filled people group!
My prayer is that the church will increasingly recognize its call to protect, nurture, disciple and release children as partners in the mission of God on earth!
Fransisco is one of our sponsored children. You would love him! We had a chance to meet him and some of his family members this year in the Dominican Republic. Fransisco is a sporty guy with lots of energy and a lot of friends and a lot of potential. He also happens to live in a fatherless […]
Last week I had the incredible opportunity to speak at an event in my hometown. I was delighted when two of my great aunts walked in unannounced- one in her 80’s and one in her 90’s! I reminisced with them about how much ease there is in my life compared to my great-grandfather (their father). […]
